I was commuting to work again this morning, and wouldn't you know it? I overtook the same I-Have-A-Race-Tomorrow-So-Am-Taking-It-Easy-Today guy. He was up ahead, and I was pushing myself a little bit on the rollers through the park, maybe hitting mid-upper z3 or so. Legs were fatigued from a long/hard month, but I hadn't done well at RoseBowl last night at all, and wanted to make up for it (a bad idea).
As I approach him, I realize it's the same guy. And being the non-confrontational type, I picked up the pace a bit and pass him quickly. But of course I look under my arms and see his wheel. In fact, his front wheel is only a couple inches from my rear wheel and overlapping at that! For a brief second, I thought of swerving to the side. But, I'm too nice.![]() I have my headphones in, so I can't quite make out what he's saying to me. He pulls along side, and repeats it. I turn the music off. "You crack me up," he's saying. I raise my eyebrows a bit, say, "Okay," and keep pedaling. He continues. "You crack me up the way you ride." Umm... I'm at a loss for words. Did he just insult me? Does my bike not fit me? Perhaps I sit on it strangely? Finally, I manage, "How do I ride?" He responds with what I am still--9 hours later--unsure what exactly he meant. "I think you know how you ride." ![]() Perhaps I should stop riding through Griffith Park? A bunch o' weirdos in there. |

pepper spray? have you ridden with mark? his calves are bigger than most riders thighs and coupled with his height could be very intimidating if he wanted too. that should/would be enough to scare most riders off.
you should have asked him more questions, mark. i know i would have. you should have jumped on his wheel, i always try to ride with other riders rather than against them if they're traveling a similar speed. too many riders today have the strength but not the skill level or the knowledge of how to ride with other riders |

I think it's clear "how you ride". Faster than him, until he's embarrassed. |
