A nice uneventful ride this morning meeting up with other SoCal RiderS at the Montrose Coffee Bean. Home at noon beating most of the heat of the day. Good times.
62.3 miles; 2,510 feet

Went on the shop ride this morning. After a virgin Arnold Palmer midway through the ride 7 of us went the long, climbing way back to the shop. I hung on to a sprint and went up the big climb faster than I've ever done. Sure feels good to relax now.

Went for a recovery ride this morning before it got hot. Legs are still toast, however.

Went up Angeles Crest Highway and made a loop through Big Tujunga Canyon Road. It came out to 36 miles and 3800 ft of climbing.
Disclaimer, I'm a 40 year old, Asian male. Flame suit on. So as I get up to the Ranger Station, I see these two Asian males standing in the pull out lane. They look to be father and son. However, the father is standing there with his belly hanging out... getting some air? ![]() I've seen this behavior in other Asian males before... but I could never figure out why. Anyone have any ideas? |

I left early this morning riding over La Tuna Canyon to meet another in Montrose to ride out to Encanto Park and back. This person has been riding for years but has no experience riding in groups, pace lines or any distance over 50 miles. He also just bought a new road bike and he is having issues getting use to all the gears and BRAKES. His old bike and that is putting is mildly does not have brakes that stop you like his new one. So I used this ride as a teaching tool which included hand signaling, verbal calls, expecting the unexpected, riding close and PAIN. I think it went well. All he really needs is more time riding and it will all fall into place. He is already strong, he can hang.
We rode out to Encanto Park and back stopping at a sidewalk café for coffee and a snack. We talked a lot about bicycling. I planned for a very hot ride day and that just did not happen. We had a steady breeze/wind all day which kept the heat at bay. We both had a good time. I look forward to our next outing. 68.5 miles; 3,484 feet

Well, if it's in the LATimes, it must be so.
