5 COUNTIES CENTURY RIDE and 4 COUNTIES MINI-CENTURY

Date: Fall
Incredible Course: Ride through portions of Kern, Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties, all within a 101-mile route. About 8000 ft. of elevation gain, including a long climb late in the ride. But you can always opt for the mini-century and skip 1 county, 14 miles, and about 1000 ft. of elevation gain.

But it's worth the effort. You are rewarded with spectacular scenery, including a view of the central valley floor from over 6000 ft., some great downhills, and almost an entire century on low traffic roads. There are only half-a-dozen turns in the entire course, so you aren't likely to get lost either. Two snack/water stops, a lunch stop, and sag support.

LOCATION: Near the intersection of Frazier Mountain Rd. and Lockwood Valley Rd., Lake of the Woods, north of Gorman off I-5.

Love this ride. How do you know the date? I just see it listed as "Fall" on the overview of rides page.

this ride is so good that tj allows me to ride w/him once a year on this ride only.

bring a spare derailleur cable!

it's the day after my anniversary so it might be tough this year, which sucks since it's early this year and the weather so be warmer than previous editions.

This the day before my birthday and as I usually ride my age I think this would be great to ride my age +. Will check with Mr. RR before I commit.

I got this email from the LA Wheelman-

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23: GRAND TOUR LITE

This informal Los Angeles Wheelmen ride revisits the best of the Grand Tour, but at shorter distances. All rides start and finish in Malibu and spend a lot of time on Pacific Coast Highway in sight of the Pacific Ocean. The Metric goes to Port Hueneme for lunch; the Full Century adds a loop through Oxnard and Ventura; and the challenging Double Metric climbs up the canyons to lunch in Moorpark, then crosses the fields of Oxnard to Port Hueneme before heading back to Malibu on the P.C.H.
INFO: http://www.LAWheelmen.orgfor registration on line or by mail.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20: FIVE COUNTY CENTURY

The Los Angeles Wheelmen will be running their annual visit to the high country around Frazier Park, with a ride that touches Ventura, Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles Counties. (You can skip riding through L.A. County, or just count driving through it, to shorten the ride by one steep climb.) Details will be announced later on the web page:

YEAR ROUND CENTURY RIDES:

There are free centuries welcoming non-members at least once a month at several bike clubs. Check the web pages for the schedules.
