A New What's Up Thread

Lots of rain this afternoon. Nothing right now - maybe more tonight, not sure.

Bought a new pair of running shoes...same kind as before, Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12 or 13. More comfortable than the GTS's I was currently wearing. Start next week on 7wk training plan for a 5k 11/11.

Rebuilding my photo library - somehow or another iPhoto became corrupt and would not open. OVer 12k of photos on my computer and no way to view unless I did a rebuild. So....that is going on right now.

Received an awesome gift from a friend on another forum (Bicycling) - somewhere during the last 2 weeks I mentioned something about red, drinks, toasting, missing my Dad, etc...today I had these waiting on me on the front porch. I am now toasting and remembering the great times we've had over the past 40+ years.

Busy, busy day, lots of stuff I didn't need but had to deal with, and other annoying road blocks tossed up as I'm trying to pack. Crapola. Managing, but it's not pretty.

Mostly I need to sleep for a couple days.

Been up since 4:20a today. 30min dog walk too. Took doggie to vet for a spa day. Bath, nails, all the trimmings. I'm sure she'll be glad to get home though.

I wish I could take the rest of the week off...just don't feel like being here and Friday is not going to be a fun day, having to get my Dad's Prius, go to Conover, and visit grave.

Way too much happens when I'm away, the most important of which has been the loss of WP's dad. I'm so sorry I didn't know before now. Please let me know if I can help you with anything....

My friend in the hospital had moved from cardiac ICU to a "progressive" room on August 24 (her surgery had been on July 27). On September 4, she had to return to cardiac ICU for monitoring following a successful electrocardioversion. For various reasons, things were a little touch-and-go, but she finally became medically stable and was moved back to the "progressive" unit on September 10. I'm happy to report that she is well-recovered from the surgery, and the only thing keeping her from going home is weakness and deconditioning from having spent so much time in bed. She's been working very hard with PT and OT once a day for the past nine days, and is already feeding herself and is able to move around in bed and use a walker to walk a bit in the hallway. Today or tomorrow, she will be moved to a rehab facility where she will be worked like a farm mule at least three hours every day. I suspect that given her determination to get home, she will only need to be there two weeks before she is strong enough to get around at home, albeit with a walker.

Been a long, exhausting process, and I have no idea where August and September have gone, but I'll be glad to see her home in October.

Unfortunately, I have a shitload of things to get caught up on, and THEN I have to get back to getting caught up on all the shit I needed to get caught up on before this crisis intervened.

Oh, well. I don't regret being there for my friends. After all, if you can't be there when your friends need you, what's the point of friendship?
