Police officer struck by drunk driver

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was riding his bike to work last Thursday night when he was struck by a car approaching him from behind. Fortunately, the officer survived. Unfortunately, he has severe back injuries, and remains in serious condition at the hospital.

The hit-and-run driver was apprehended within the hour.

I met a CMPD officer (in CMPD kit) on a charity ride I did last year. He was a strong rider and I enjoyed very much a post-ride conversation I had with him. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, so I wonder if this is the same man.

I found out that this isn't the same officer I'd met earlier, but I'm still concerned about him. Haven't heard anything else regarding his injuries, or whether he is expected to make a full recovery.

In the meantime, the driver is to appear in room 1150 of the Mecklenburg County District Court during the morning session on August 1 to face charges of felony serious injury by vehicle, felony hit-and-run with serious injury, DWI, and driving with revoked license.

How sad.

Glad they caught the low-life sumbitch driver. Hope they throw the book at him.

And I hope Officer Lambe makes a full recovery.

The case is now in Superior Court. He appears on March 16 on all three charges. Morning session, room 5350.

Mr. Miller received 30 months of probation with a suspended sentence for his Class H felony.

What I don't get is why is he out on probation? Did he promise he won't drink and drive and hit someone else?
